SCRUB A DUB…Whew B*TCH, I hate dishes!

This is just a rant about how much I am not liking all these dishes that keep magically appearing in my kitchen sink, on my stove and on my countertops.

I get it! I am cooking more, but who TF is dirtying all these dishes?! It can’t only be me. I refuse to believe this.

Me looking at the dirty dishes in my sink wondering how they got in my house.

Outfit: Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney Robe Jacket, H&M navy jumpsuit and Zara printed mini scarf.

Outside of quarantine, I cooked about once or twice a week. This meant that I’d have to wash dishes on two days at the most, with the exception of a glass or plate I used. I would wash as I cooked, that way I wouldn’t have a pile of dishes at the end of the day. Welllllllllll all of that has changed with the lockdown. I no longer feel inclined to wash dishes after every meal, especially when I’m now cooking everyday. If I did that, I would be doing dishes twice a day and ain’t nobody got time for that! Well I kinda do, but it’s still a hard NO!

On an average day I cook/prepare at least one meal from scratch, for either brunch or dinner. At least 4 days out of the week I test recipes. I cook 2 meals a day and everyday I am stuck with a mountain of dishes, that no one is coming to clean up. Where are the gnomes?! Send in the gnomes!

Yes, yes, yes, I have heard it a million times from my friends and family that I should use plates BUT 1. I don’t want to and 2. When I plate my BEET ME DOWN SALAD on a paper plate, I know you will all side eye me and wonder, what is happening over there in my household? So, no. I am not going to use paper plates. Yes, I will still complain about the dishes, lol.

I’ve figured out the best way to handle this without making myself crazy, is keep my cooking schedule, and as I go soak any dishes that need soaking. I leave them all until about 9 pm at night and do one big wash. I know it won’t get any less annoying, but I’m trying to be patient with this. I never leave dishes in the sink to avoid roaches etc, but I will admit to clearing out the bottom shelf of my refrigerator and stuffing dirty dishes in there, until the next day.

I love cooking, I really do. I love plating a beautiful dish, but MY GOD I need a dishwasher, or somebody gonna get a hurt real bad. If I see 50-11 more dishes in this kitchen, I might scream. I’d make one pot dishes everyday if I could, but life is just not that easy. If you have a solution to having less dishes that don’t involve paper plates, please send them my way.

If you too are also struggling with dirty dishes, (this sounds like a mesothelioma ad lol) I don’t know what to tell you, but I hope you find some peace around this because honey, we are in for the long hawl 😑.

Thank you for reading. Please respect my privacy during this very difficult time.

On one onions

Bacon and Prosecco caramelized onions I just needed to jot down this recipe that I recently came up with that I am in love with. It’s very simple, it requires few ingredients but it does take an investment in time. In terms of flavor it is well worth the wait! Let’s get on it! Serves […]

Flexing my mussels and Popping bottles

Mussels in Prosecco sauce with grilled whole grain bread slices. Mussels are my go to dish! I love it because it makes me feel a little bit fancy but it is cheap and quick. I am not kidding about cheap, they are around $2.99 per pound in most stores. I get them fresh from the […]

Call me Mari Mari

Calamari two ways – Grilled and fried calamari with tri-color pearled couscous in a tomato shrimp head sauce. This morning I woke up and had a taste for something a little special. I dug into my freezer and found the last bit of calamari and some frozen shrimp heads I had. The couscous calamari combination […]
